Academic and Professional Career
Dr. Nnamdi's academic work sits within the tradition of International Political Economy focusing on Modernization and Development Economics. He has been awarded a doctoral research fellowship at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution, where he studied the modern history of capitalism, neoliberalism, imperialism, and rentier capitalism. Dr. Nnamdi was later selected for the inaugural ACLS Emerging Voices post-doctoral fellowship class of 2020, where his research centered on a renewed methodology for a political risk barometer in development finance that instructs on best practices for cross border capital flows in emerging and frontier economies. Dr. Nnamdi holds a BA in Political Science from Northwestern University, an interdisciplinary MA in International Relations from The Johns Hopkins University (SAIS), and an MA and Ph.D. in International Political Economy from The Johns Hopkins University.
Professionally Dr. Nnamdi combines 20 years of research experience in global capital markets, economic development policy, and development finance with more than a decade of private-sector financial advisory and institutional client management. Currently Dr. Nnamdi serves as Co-Director of Blended Finance at the Sustainable Investing Research Initiative (SIRI) at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) where he is also a Senior Research Scholar. At SIRI, Dr. Igbokwe designs and leads blended finance programming that mobilizes capital for sustainable development, particularly in lower-income markets, through rigorous research, high-level convening, and practitioner-focused education. Previously, Dr. Nnamdi served as the Director of Knowledge and Thought Leadership at Convergence Blended Finance. He lead and managed the generation of blended finance data, intelligence, and deal flow to increase private sector investment in developing countries. Prior, Dr. Nnamdi was Senior Vice President leading strategic initiatives for the Data Analytics Reporting and Technology Market Risk team at Citigroup. Dr. Nnamdi also served as the Director of Investor Relations at a NY global macro hedge fund, where he created knowledge products and managed the ecosystem of content to support and mobilize investments in emerging markets. He has additionally worked as a sustainable development advisor for multilateral investment and economic development initiatives sponsored by the World Bank and the African Development Bank. He began his career as a management consultant at Boston Consulting Group, where he serviced financial institutions in regulatory compliance and risk management.
